Varieties "Slavyanka" is considered one of the best among the culture. Potatoes are easy to grow, and minimal maintenance is required. The root crop is distinguished by good marketability and taste. The article discusses the moments of cultivation and care - soil preparation and planting material, planting.
History, Description, Characteristics
"Slavyanka" was bred in Ukraine by breeders of the Kirovograd Institute of UAAS using virus-free seed material. The variety was registered in the State Register of the Russian Federation in 2009. From that moment, Slavyanka began to spread widely throughout Russia, winning the love of local gardeners and vegetable growers.
It is recommended to plant a variety in the Central Black Earth region, but it is planted in almost all regions of the country. In the country where the variety was bred, Slavyanka is considered one of the best.
The bushes are small, compact, reaching a height of up to 50 centimeters. The stems are spreading, the green mass is lush, the edges of the leaves are wavy, they themselves are small. The tubers have an oval-elongated shape, the skin is even, thin, pinkish-purple. On the surface there are small, shallow eyes. The mass of one tuber reaches 100-250 grams. Sometimes there are larger specimens.
From the day of the first seedlings, 100-120 days pass until complete ripening. Potatoes guarantee high yields. From one hundred square meters, up to 300 kg of potatoes are harvested. Subject to the rules of agricultural technology, the indicator increases to 400 kilograms. About 13 large tubers and a minimum of small potatoes are obtained from one bush.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of Slavyanka?
Potatoes of the Slavyanka variety have many positive qualities and a minimum of negative points. But before landing it is important to carefully familiarize yourself with both sides, so as not to encounter certain difficulties or lack of knowledge.
The advantages of potatoes:
- resistance to major diseases;
- high palatability of tubers;
- unpretentiousness to climatic and weather conditions;
- high productivity;
- universality of the use of potatoes;
- friendly ripening of root crops;
- attractive presentation;
- good keeping quality.
The disadvantage of Slavyanka potatoes is the lack of resistance of tubers to mechanical damage. Potatoes damaged by digging are discarded.
Landing Features
Before planting potatoes, the soil and planting material are preliminarily prepared. Only following the recommendations will allow you to get a high yield.
Soil and seed preparation
They prefer even and well-lit areas where moisture does not stay, as this can lead to rotting of plants. Pre-prepare the soil and make humus in the soil. When digging, it is important to add nitrogenous, phosphoric and potassium fertilizers - they help the seed to ascend faster and later to form tubers.
3-4 weeks before planting, the potatoes are laid out in 1-2 layers and taken out into a warm room, where warm rays penetrate - the tubers turn green and germinate, which ensures better germination of the root crop.
Of the most beautiful bushes, small tubers are left. For planting, the use of potatoes the size of a chicken egg is recommended. Potatoes are planted after it turns green and sprouts.
Planting potatoes
Potatoes are planted at a soil temperature of + 7-10 degrees. Due to this, potatoes will be able to “take advantage” of the moisture accumulated during the winter from snowmelt.
In the spring they dig a plot, loosen it. The distance between the bushes should be 30 cm, between the rows - at least 70 cm. Compost is added to the dug holes. Lay the seed to a depth of 8-10 cm, drip it with earth, level it with a rake.
Care Features
It’s easy to take care of potatoes if you follow the basic recommendations that will help you get a good harvest in the future:
- Water plants. Regular watering recommended. But Slavyanka does not like excessive hydration, because this can lead to the development of fungal diseases. It is better to install a drip irrigation system.
- Weed bushes. The procedure is carried out a few weeks after planting, when the first shoots appear. Then weed as necessary.
- Spud potatoes. They spud plants twice: when the bushes grow to 15-20 cm, before flowering. Combine this procedure simultaneously with loosening and weeding.
- To feed. Potatoes need enhanced dressing. Before the first hilling, add 300 g of humus and 10 g of ammonium nitrate, based on one plant. It is useful to feed plants with mullein and wood ash. After the plant fades, it is recommended to water it with a solution of 30 g of superphosphate diluted in 10 l of water.
- Mulch the beds. To mulch aisles and potato beds using sawdust or hay. The mulch is laid out in a layer of 5-10 cm - this contributes to the excellent retention of moisture and heat, and also prevents the spread of weeds.
Pest and Disease Control
Relative to late blight, average stability is observed, which is why it is recommended to treat the plant with copper-containing preparations. Late blight is manifested by dark spots on the leaves, which leads to their early decay. Gradually, the disease spreads to the tubers and stem. If measures are not taken, this will lead to the destruction of the entire crop.
To avoid such a problem, gardeners comply with the following recommendations:
- observe crop rotation;
- when laying potatoes for storage, they first examine it for infected tubers;
- do not spray potatoes in the evening, drops on the green mass can be a start for the development of the disease;
- timely harvest;
- dried harvested potatoes in the fresh air;
- Do not forget about hilling bushes.
Insecticides are used to eliminate pests: Colorado potato beetle, bear, aphid, wireworm. Read more about pest control here. Only all these actions will help to grow healthy potatoes.
Harvesting and storage
When the bushes begin to sink and wither, it is recommended to dig one bush: if the skin of potatoes has become strong, it is allowed to start mass harvesting.
After harvesting, the tubers are left for several hours in the sun to dry. Then they are sorted out from rot, and sorted into planting and feed material. Next, they lower the potatoes into the storage.
Store the vegetable in the underground, cellars, cellars. It does not matter in which room to store the potatoes, but it should be clean, ventilated and disinfected, the humidity in it is 80-95%, and the air temperature + 1-3 degrees.
Store potatoes in bags, nets, wooden crates or compartments. You can also sprinkle it on the floor, after making a deepening and pouring straw into it, with a layer of 10 cm.
Comparison with other varieties
To compare Slavyanka potatoes with other mid-season varieties, a table is given where you can find out about the advantages and disadvantages of a similar crop:
Grade | Ripening time | Productivity | Benefits | disadvantages |
Slav | 100-120 days | up to 400 kg / ha |
| Low resistance to mechanical damage. |
Tuleevsky | 80-110 days | 180-500 kg / ha |
| Susceptibility to a cyst-forming golden nematode. |
Rocco | 100-150 | 350-400 kg / ha |
| Poorly stored in cellars where there are no proper conditions. |
Aurora | 60-80 days | 215-400 kg / ha |
| Needs a high level of agricultural technology. |
Rosara | 65-70 days | 415 kg / ha |
| Suffers from late blight of the tops. |
Reviews gardeners and vegetable growers
Potato Slavyanka is popular among gardeners, farmers and farmers. Confirmation of this are the many positive reviews that can be found on the Web.
Anastasia, 34 years old, gardener. I am well acquainted with the Slavyanka variety; it is very popular in our area. Once I heard a conversation from neighbors where they praised this variety, then I decided to try to grow it on my site. I found information on the right fit and care on the Internet. And I did it! The second year I can’t get enough. Now my family eats delicious dishes, which I try to add potatoes to whenever possible.
Elena, 28 years old, live in a private house. I got acquainted with this variety four seasons ago. After the first landing, I was seriously "drawn out." I liked that after landing, the time spent on care is minimal. In the first year I managed to collect 700 kg of potatoes from one hundred parts. At the same time, it was not possible to constantly water the plants. I liked the size of the tubers and their shape. Small potatoes almost never happen. During heat treatment, the potato does not darken, while frying it retains its shape.
Ekaterina, 39 years old, engaged in cultivation and marketing. A few years ago, I could not even think that I would give up my favorite work as an accountant and begin to grow potatoes for its further sale. But when I first not only grew root crops myself, but also appreciated their taste qualities, I realized "I want everyone to try this variety." That's when I decided to engage in the "potato business", and did not regret it - and I always supply it with potatoes and others. By the way, the variety tolerates long distances without problems, without losing its presentation.
